Many people probably wonder and many people ask when they see my page on Facebook, how did I come up with this name?
Let's start with the problems with my last name. My last name is Johns, it often gets misspelled or mispronounced. Most commonly confused with Jones or sometimes Johnson. Unless you've seen CNN's Joe Johns you've probably not seen someone with my last name. I can day my name and people get it confused with Jones immediately. Even Corey Feradi at USC Aiken corrected my resume to spell my last name as Jones, a deadly sin that would get you a 0 on many college papers. Simply spoke my last name was killing my business, I had to come with something memorable if I wanted people to find my pages and my works. Unfortunately, it took me nearly a decade for this to be drilled in my thick skull. My High School even screwed up on my junior year and contacted my parents saying I was receiving an award on award day, there just so happened to be a Joseph Jones in my class though, whom they really meant.
There is a litany of issues with my last name. 1. It can be confused with Jones, Johnson or even pluralized in error to be John's. 2. the feature everyone loves to hate known as Auto correct will correct it. 3. Even google often fails to pick up the spelling correctly. 4. people will literally read the first few letters and assume it spells Jones or Johnson.
Other businesses have similar names too so this evoked the need for a unique name. Geolina evolved from the fact that I've lived a lot of my life in two states, Georgia and South Carolina. I could've done GeorgiaLina but I wanted a balance between the two states in my name not more Georgia than Carolina, Since the name change many have had a much easier time finding and accessing my content.
